FULFILL YOUR DOGS EXERCISE NEEDS:
EXERCISE IS IMPORTANT IN BOTH OUR LIVES AND OUR DOGS LIVES...PERSONALLY I USE A TREADMILL WITH MY DOGS TO ASSIST IN MEETING THEIR DAILY EXERCISE NEEDS. PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS SUPERVISE YOUR DOG IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE A TREADMILL. KEEP IN MIND A TREADMILL SHOULD NEVER TOTALLY REPLACE YOUR DAILY WALKING ROUTINE WITH YOUR DOGS.

This is all 4 of my pitbulls doing treadmill work. Both Dorey and Sammy are still working on being comfortable with the treadmill but as you will see Mia and Dakot are happy to walk.

Exercise Basics:
Dogs needs 30-45 minutes of exercise everyday, regarless of breed. For more active dogs of any breed, owners may find that they have to increase that to twice a day. Please know that a good walk with our dogs is one of the most bonding experiences we can participate in with them. We should, as responsible dog owners, want to walk (migrate) with our dogs to allow them to fullfill that part of them; of course walking is also good for our physical & mental health. During our walks with our dogs, we should be the leader, never allow our dogs to walk in front of us. If we allow our dogs to walk in front of us, this can send the wrong signals both to our dogs and to other dogs.

So keep in mind:
  • 30-45 minutes of exercise everyday
  • Always provide leadership while walking
  • Never allow your dog(s) to walk in front of you, they must be beside you or behind you.

Using A Backpack:When using a backpack on your dog, make sure to balance the weight used. Also ensure that the weight being used is comfortable for your dog.

A good example would be the Olde English Bulldog (Bru) in the picture at left used 2 water bottles on each side for her weight of 76 lbs.

MENTAL EXERCISES:
WE HAVE TO MENTALLY CHALLENGE OUR DOGS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE BEHAVIOR ISSUES. CARSON WAS DOG AGGRESSIVE WHEN HE CAME TO MY HOME FOR HELP.HERE HE IS SLEEPING WITH CHESTER AND MIA JUST INCHES AWAY.

Feeding is also a Mental Exercise:
For any dog to eat beside another patiently without fighting is a success. My dogs have to be calm before they eat, they are challenged everyday, at every feeding to focus on me and remain calm before being fed.
